God's desire for us

Happy New year,

I trust the year has begun well for you and you are excited at what is ahead of us. I am and I strongly believe that God will lead us through this year victoriously. I am kept on remembering you and praying for you and I trust you have done the same. I would like to kick off this years devotionals with a summary of our sermon at church.

Yesterday we had a good service at ICC Mombasa. God continues to amaze me with the way He is building His church, the worship set was great and one of the songs we sung was written by the worship team during as they were taking juice during the service break. Beautiful song and very inspirational.

The sermon was based on Mathew 14 verse 22 to 29, Peter walked on the water. He walked on the water just like Jesus. He sunk after a few steps, yes. But for a brief moment, Peter walked on water. Peter showed great faith in getting out of the boat and going to Jesus. The reason he sinks is not because it was wrong to get out of the boat. Peter only sinks when that faith waivers. The greatest failure in this story is not Peter but the rest of the disciples, who sat huddled in the boat, scared of the raging storm and wondering whether they were seeing Jesus or a ghost.

All of the disciples got safely to the other shore when Jesus and Peter got into the boat, but only Peter walked on water. Many times we only remember that Peter sunk and forget that among all the disciples, he is the only one who walked on water. The lesson? If you want to walk on the water, you’ve got to get out of the boat. Peter preferred to be with Jesus in the water rather than be in the boat with a bunch of disciples scared stiff and unable to accomplish the Lord’s instructions to get to the other side.

We talk about wanting to serve the Lord, to work miracles, wanting to do great things for Christ. But yet we don’t want to leave the comfort zone of our boats, to compromise the comfort and safety we enjoy there even when the storms are beating upon us and driving us towards disaster. You and I cannot walk on water without getting out of the boat, without taking the risk and stepping out into the unknown.

A ship IS SAFE IN A HARBOR OR AT A DRY DOCK but SHIPS ARE BUILT FOR THE OCEANS…God calls us to step out of our boats, to stop hanging around the dry docks of our lives and remaining moored at the harbor. He calls us to step out of our boats and charge the winds and travel the ocean of purpose. To seek to serve His will and accomplish His dreams for us out in the raging seas of reality, we were never created to hide in small little boats scared to death by the storms of life. We are warriors. God created us and called us so that we can live to honor His name. Jesus is calling to us, come, the lost in sin are calling us to come, the orphans are calling us to come, men and women who are tired of doing drugs and prostitution and all kinds of corruption are calling out. They are calling out looking for one who can help them and lead them to the light for they do not know how to get help. Are we hearing or are we to scared to step out of the boat? We are busy praying for a goodnight like the disciples, busy praying that are will be well in the night as the storm rages but God wants us to step out by heeding His call and go serve to change the world.

Question is, will you answer to the Lord’s call or are you to busy praying for a goodnight?

Let us step out of our Boats into what God has for us.

Blessings.
